2 Kings 10:27 They demolished the sacred stone of Baal and tore down the temple of Baal, and people have used it for a latrine to this day.
What significance does this verse have for us? Well, at this time, the Israelites had just gotten rid of King Ahab and the most famous evil woman in the Bible, Jezebel. During this time, the Israelites had fallen farther from God than ever. One of the big problems was idolatry.
In Hinduism, some people look to idols as gods that govern life and that are to be feared. Others look to them as good luck charms. The Israelites were in the same position. Other peoples and religions had filtered into Israel and it was almost like "maybe an idol will help out, maybe not, but why not play along?" The Israelites began drifting from god to go, from idol to idol. Whatever was the latest craze around them became the new god for the Israelites.
Somtimes, we become like the Israelites, putting whatever is hottest first in your life. We allow other things to come between us and God. To borrow from a recent speaker, using Revelation 3:15 "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!" He made a comparison to extreme sports athletes. They are hardcore about their sport. That is what is on their mind all the time and nothing else comes first. That's how we should be. We should have Jesus on our mind at all times. This not only can help us to fend off temptations, but helps us to grow closer. Think about it, which people are you closest to. That would be the people you are around the most. So, try to live extreme for the lord. That doesn't mean we have to move to India, rather it just means that we need to have him with us every minute of every day. Don't look to whatever new craze has just swept the area, look to what is and always will be there: God.
