Sorry we haven't updated recently.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but I have not love, I am nothing.  If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

This passage seems to confirm a message I heard a few weeks back.  We have become so focused on doing missions and helping others, but we can't neglect our personal relationship with God.  That's what this passage says.  It says that "if we have not love" and God is love; therefore, if we don't have love, we don't have God, and everything is in vain.  We have to have a personal relationship with God first before we can help others and truly gain anything from it.  If we don't have a personal relationship with God, how can we tell anyone else about him?

The rest of this chapter talks of what love is.  It gives us a list of things that are godlike qualities.  For example, "love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud."  These are things that we can try to work on so that we can become more like our Savior and try to grow closer to him.  Of course, we need to look to him for help because we can't do this on our own.
