1 Corinthians 6:13-15
"...the body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. Do you not know that you bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!"
1 Corinthians 6:18
"Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor god with your body."
I was randomly flipping through my Bible, looking for something to write about when I happened upon this passage. Today, sexuality seems to appear in nearly every facet of our everyday lives. I heard a parent complaining that her children were watching Scooby Doo when a
Also, as Paul mentions in verses 16 and 17, when we are married, our bodies are to become one. We should want to stay pure so that when we marry, we should want to become a pure union, one that has not participated in sexual immorality. Paul notes that this sin is different from others because it a sin that harms the body itself. Sexual promiscuity can lead to STD's and other detrimental consequences. Other sins like murder, lies, and using the Lord's name in vain do not directly harm the body. In doing this, you are also sinning against the Holy Spirit by desecrating the temple of the Holy Spirit that is your body. Just remember if you are ever tempted that it's not your decision to make because your body belongs to Christ. That should help to fight off any temptation to indulge in sexual acts and it should help you to maintain a closer relationship with our Lord.
